A casual winter outfit with a message.

In one of my previous posts, I shared that I had been taking my faith more seriously. I recently began attending a new church, and my pastor spoke about advent (the season before Christmas day when Christians prepare their hearts for the birth of Jesus). In his sermon, he began to talk about how God prepared Jesus to come to earth to give us not good but greater. This sermon had me thinking. I had never really distinguished the difference between good and greater. I think about it now, and I wonder how to get myself to be greater. Here are a few things that came to mind.

To be great, here are a few things that should be done if they aren’t already done.

  1. Being great provides others with inspiration, encouragement, and, most importantly, transformation. After an encounter with you, people should feel like they want to change for the better like they want to be greater. By modeling greatness in your own life, you can encourage others to transform their circumstances and show them that they can achieve greater.

  2. Being great contributes to humanity's flourishment and empowers others to overcome what they may face. As mentioned above, being a healing model and working through your traumas will help enable others to heal themselves and improve their lives. This, in turn, will move humanity forward because there will be less generational trauma and more love as we collectively heal.

  3. Being great is continuing to love yourself and others, even if they may not seem deserving of love. It’s essential to strengthen the relationship with yourself by forgiving and loving yourself. Once you love yourself, you can then extend that love to others. The world wants us to be jaded, go against our hearts, and be unloving. So it’s essential to look outside of what the world wants you to do and look at what you should do. Get better at strengthening your boundaries, and continue to love. The world needs more love, and a great person knows how important love is for the good of all humanity.

Each day striving for greater is a step closer to improving this world.

So I ask this question, are you going to aim for just good or greater?
