Creating consistency with prayer and reading the bible

A bit of background:

Much of my internal glow-up journey started when I resubmitted my life to Christ. I resubmitted my life to Christ in December 2022. A little bit of background is that I grew up a church kid, and I loved the things of God, and I had a firm belief in Jesus Christ, but as I grew older, I strayed away from the things of the lord due to circumstances and just not understanding why God allowed Jesus to die for a world so cruel. It turned my heart cold, and I wanted nothing to do with Jesus, but I still convinced myself that I believed in God. I started experimenting with new-age spirituality and all the tarot cards and readings. I remember feeling so empty, and I just felt so drained in my soul. One day my sister put on our pastor’s sermon. Pastor spoke about surrendering; that was the day I decided to resubmit my life to Christ. I asked God to restore my soul and lead me in his ways. It was super emotional.

After resubmitting my life to Christ, a few weeks passed, and I was consistently tuning into church on Sundays. My pastor assembled a collective devotional leading up to Christmas. Each day for 30 days, we were given a booklet of devotionals that included short prayers. I would read the devotional and say a quick prayer, and I would do this first thing in the morning before checking my phone. This helped me build the habit and discipline of prayer and reading the Word. Once the devotional was complete, I said, “Hey, I can now put my bible in place of the devotional, and that’s what I did. Once the devotional was completed, I began reading my bible consistently. This started my glow-up journey because I was now practicing soul care and spiritual discipline.

How to build the consistency

Start with deciding your frequency. Do you want to start reading one verse or chapter daily? Then decide on a set time every day so that it becomes a habit. I suggest first thing in the morning before checking your phone because it creates the habit of pouring into yourself and getting your mind right before checking anything. Then meditate on what you have read, and allow it to sit and marinate in your soul. If you get stuck, you can ask God to show you what to read and to reveal more clarity. As you read, take notes, write down what the scripture or chapter means, and pray about it. You can also start with apps like youversion. This app has devotionals, bible verses, and more to help you jumpstart your glow-up with Christ.

I hope this post was helpful on your journey to glowing and growing in Christ. Below are some valuable tools that I used to jumpstart my new journey in Christ, and I hope these tools will also be helpful to you.
